UN Issues Call For "Immediate" Ceasefire In Gaza

(New York, NY) -- The United Nations Security Council is issuing a call for a ceasefire in Gaza.
During a midnight meeting in New York, the council expressed "strong support" for such a ceasefire in order to allow the delivery of what it called "urgently needed assistance." The 15-member council also expressed support for a "comprehensive peace" between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza. A 24-hour humanitarian ceasefire failed Sunday when Israel resumed its offensive after rockets were fired from Gaza.
