Rap Lyrics Rejected As Evidence In Murder Trial

(Trenton, NJ) -- A man who was thrown in jail over his rap lyrics is getting a new trial thanks to New Jersey's Supreme Court. Vonte Skinner's rap lyrics were used as evidence to convict him in the attempted murder of Lamont Peterson back in 2008. The state's highest court threw out the evidence today in an unanimous decision, saying that just because Bob Marley wrote, "I Shot the Sheriff," doesn't mean he actually did it. Skinner's lyrics were also written five years before Peterson's shooting. A new trial date has yet to be scheduled.
