Sysco Settles California Lawsuit

(Santa Cruz, CA) -- A major U.S. food distribution company will be paying nearly 20-million dollars to settle a consumer protection lawsuit in California. An investigation by KNTV-TV revealed that Sysco Corporation regularly kept perishable foods such as seafood, milk and raw meats in unrefrigerated and unregistered storage sheds. Prosecutors say those food items would then be picked up by employees in their unrefrigerated personal cars and taken to customers like schools, hospitals and restaurants. Sysco is paying 15-million in penalties, and almost five-million in restitution.
