Dollar Tree Buying Family Dollar

(Undated) -- The discount store chain Dollar Tree is buying rival discounter Family Dollar. The boards of both companies have unanimously approved the eight and-a-half-billion dollar merger. Dollar Tree employs more than 87-thousand people. Family Dollar's workforce totals 50-thousand. The two companies had combined sales of about 18 and-a-quarter-billion dollars last year.
