Sofia Vergara Knocks Critics Of Emmy Pedestal Stunt

(Los Angeles, CA) -- Sofia Vergara says her critics need to lighten up. Addressing those who slammed her Emmy pedestal bit as sexist and objectifying of women, the Colombian beauty and "Modern Family" star told reporters backstage she thinks the bit was exactly the opposite of what critics tried to make it out to be. She said, "It means that somebody can be hot and also funny and make fun of herself." Vergara called the whole thing ridiculous, adding that whoever started the controversy "has no sense of humor and should lighten up a little bit."

The bit had Vergara rotating on a pedestal as an eye-catching assist for the speech delivered by Television Academy chairman Bruce Rosenblum. Vergara hammed up the segment by posing beauty queen style and drawing attention to her voluptuous figure.
