(New York, NY) -- Melissa Rivers says her mom's condition remains "serious" but believes Joan would be "touched by the tributes and prayers" the family has received from around the world. In a statement to E! network for which Melissa and Joan have co-hosted many red carpet events, Melissa said Joan was receiving "the best treatment and care possible" after a medical emergency sent her to Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City Thursday. The 81-year-old comedienne reportedly stopped breathing and went into cardiac arrest during a throat procedure at her doctor's clinic early Thursday.
Reports suggest Rivers is in a medically-induced coma. Melissa said in her initial statement Thursday that Joan was "resting comfortably." She and her son Cooper arrived in New York late Thursday from Los Angeles to be at her mother's side.
