Emmys To Air Monday, August 25th, First Monday In 38 Years

(Los Angeles, CA) -- For the first time in almost 40 years, the primetime Emmy Awards will be held on a Monday. Also scheduled a month earlier than usual, the change from Sunday to Monday - and September to August - was made this year so as to not interrupt NBC's highly-rated "Sunday Night Football" schedule next month. Last year, the Emmys went up against "Sunday Night Football" when CBS hosted the Hollywood ceremony. The football game beat out the awards presentation in the ratings. NBC is counting on the lack of football this Monday, August 25th, to keep the Emmys uncontested as a ratings leader. The 66th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live coast-to-coast from 8:00 pm to 11:00 pm Eastern.

Seth Meyers will host the event from the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles welcoming some of the hottest names and programs on television. Nominees for Outstanding Drama this year include: "Breaking Bad," "Downton Abbey," "Game Of Thrones," "House of Cards," "Mad Men" and "True Detective." The Outstanding Comedy Series category includes: "The Big Bang Theory," "Louie," "Modern Family," "Orange Is The New Black," "Silicon Valley," and "Veep."
