BET Apologizes For On-Air Joke About Blue Ivy Carter


(Undated) -- BET is issuing a public apology to Jay Z and Beyonce after some backlash about a joke regarding their daughter Blue Ivy. The joke was read on the air by Karrueche Tran who was co-hosting the "106 & Park" show on the night of the MTV Video Music Awards. Reading off a script of the "top six things Blue Ivy thought about the VMAs," she joked -- from the two-year-old's point of view -- "I really did wake up like this because my parents never combed my hair." Karrueche, best known as the on again-off again girlfriend of singer Chris Brown, apologized during the show and on Twitter after reiterating her respect for the hip-hop super couple.

BET exec Stephen Hill is now coming forward to make amends as well, tweeting that it was "a stupid, unthoughtful joke made about a young child." He adds that the network has apologized to Bey and Jay both publicly and privately and has "taken punitive actions with those responsible."
