Being a film critic, people assume I've seen EVERY MOVIE EVER MADE, which is of course, impossible. While I see more than the average bear (if said bear was a cinephile) there are some BIG ones I have yet to see, most notably Gone With the Wind.
I'd rather get the same stunned reaction from people (WHAT?!?!?! YOU'VE NEVER SEEN THAT?!?!?!) than lie about it, but I would guess a fair amount of people act like they've seen every important movie that ever comes up in conversation.
To that point, a British video rental service (LoveFilm) asked people if they've ever lied about seeing a movie (have you ever done that?) and ended up with a list of the movies that people most pretend they've seen.
