Hear "Oh Sweet Lorraine" Written By a 96 Year-Old Man

for his wife of 75 years, who recently passed away

Have you heard "Oh Sweet Lorraine" yet?

It's been quite a sensation online. It's also cracked the iTunes Top 10, and sold more than 100,000 copies on iTunes . . . more than the latest singles by JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and MILEY CYRUS.

But here's something it doesn't share with too many other hit songs: It was written by a 96-YEAR-OLD MAN.

His name is Fred Stobaugh . . . and he wrote it about his wife of 75 years, who recently passed away. Fred originally wrote the lyrics as part of a contest . . . and then they were turned into a song, which is performed by JACOB COLGAN.

TMZ reports that Fred is making quite a bit of money off the song . . . but there aren't really any specific numbers.

Supposedly, he's planning to use the money to purchase "new hearing aids."

Here's a nine-minute video that tells Fred's story. It was uploaded on YouTube back in July, and now has over 3 MILLION VIEWS.

You can hear the song at the 5:50 mark.
