Brent Buerck on The Vietnam Veterans Memorial
City Administrator for Perryville Brent Buerck speaks with Jamie about the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Perryville, Missouri.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial is a tribute to the dead and missing soldiers of the United States’ longest and most unpopular war. Like the war itself, this memorialization was highly controversial, but the site has become the most frequently visited memorial in Washington, D.C., drawing over 5.5 million visitors annually.
For the many psychologically wounded combatants, the wall is incorporated into their healing; therapeutic programs for veterans with PTSD often make visiting it part of their emotional healing. Efforts to extend the wall beyond its physical boundaries also demonstrate its significance. Today, In Perryville, Missouri, a rural town of about 8000 people, building begins on the only full-sized, black granite wall replica.
Brent and Jamie also discuss the Run, Run, Rudolph 5K Walk/Run for Missouri's National Veterans Memorial.
