Landshark Stadium?
Posted 9/14/2009 10:50:00 AM
It's officially football season, and I couldn't be more excited. Except for one small hitch. My hometown team, the Miami Dolphins, have made a pact with one Jimmy Buffett.
Not being a Buffett fan, I'm not sure how I feel about this.
Buffett and team owner Stephen Ross recently unveiled a logo for LandShark Stadium, the new name of the Dolphins' home. (Buffett's LandShark Lager is brewed by Anheuser-Busch, and is not too bad.)
Thankfully, the agreement to change the name from Dolphin Stadium is for THIS SEASON ONLY and expires BEFORE the stadium plays host to the Super Bowl in February.
Thank the almighty (Marino) for that.
To throw salt in a Dol-Fan's wounds, a Margaritaville area will be created at the stadium, with a goal of bringing Buffett's "unique culture" to games.
Unique Culture? Ugh.
No wonder the Fins lost their season opener. They blew out their flip ...

After many moons of searching, my wife and I have bought a house!
(Special thanks to President Obama for the first-time homeowners’ tax credit.)
We’ve been in our new South City hizzy for two weeks now, and already the joys of homeownership have been many.
Joys such as buying a garden hose, mowing the lawn, and discovering light fixtures that don’t work. (Three so far!)
The differences between this and apartment life are legion. For instance, I’ve never fully unpacked all of my belongings at any apartment I’ve ever lived in, as I always knew the next move was just around the corner.
So it’s a special treat to go through all these dusty boxes and uncover lost treasures for our new humble abode.
While I unpack this afternoon, I find myself watching a docudrama from 2007 called Bernard and Doris, about the unlikely friendship between tobacco heiress Doris Duke ...
Fantasy Football

I had a great time at Lollapalooza 2009, and I'm already stoked for Lolla 2010.
Where else but in Chicago's beautiful Grant Park an you expect to see tons of bands, eat great food, get sunburned, and watch hilarious people in the crowd as they try to dance?
Since I've been back in Saint Louis, we've had lots of great shows and events.
Jamie Allman filled in for Laura Ingraham for not one, not two, but THREE big broadcasts, and I even filled in for Dave Glover for two shows.
Meanwhile the morning crew has been gearing up for football season, and we recently drafted our fantasy football teams for the third year in a row.
Our boss Jeff Allen won the first year's crown, and Denys Schaefer was last year's winner. Wish me luck, peeps.
I have Tony Romo and Willie Parker on my team, so that's not too ...

Keep an ear out for my new feature on 97.1 FM Talk, Max's Movie Minute.
Yes, each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the last thing you'll hear at the end of Allman in the Morning and the Dave Glover Show is Max's Movie Minute, my new lightning fast capsule reviews of the latest theatrical and dvd releases.
This way I can give you movie reviews EVEN WHEN I'M ON VACATION, like this week as I pack up the cats for Chi-Town.
Yes....you guessed it....
It's that time again, y'alls!
LOLLA-PA-LOLLA!
This week I'll be taking a long weekend off to travel to the windy city of Chicago to take in three days of music in beautiful Grant Park.
Tons of great acts are going to be there, from Cold War Kids to TV on the Radio, but there is no one I'm looking forward to seeing more than Lou Reed.
I'll ...
Celebrity Star Wars

Recently I had the opportunity to be a judge for the annual Forty Eight Hour Film Project, a very fun contest that gives amatuer filmmakers - you guessed it - 48 hours to write, shoot, edit, and finish a feature film.
It's a national contest, and Saint Louis had many entries this year. Some were great, some good, and of course, some not so good.
You can find out more about the project by clicking HERE, and a DVD of the winning films can now be purchased for only $10 HERE.
Being a judge was fun, but I'm thinking about entering my own film next year.
Here's my idea - CELEBRITY STAR WARS!
I'm thinking Zach Braff for Luke Skywalker, and Kristen Bell for Princess Leia.
Do you have any casting ideas?
