Gangnam Prisoner Style, Julia's Shoes, and a Fat News Anchor is Awfully Whiney

This Saturday the Dave Glover Band is playing a benefit for Tunnel for Towers foundation, but some of the funding for the event fell through. If you’d like to make a donation to help with costs, please e-mail Greg Jones at greg.jones.lsl@gmail.com

This is making national news: Wisconsin news anchor Jennifer Livingston went on air to respond to an e-mail from a listener. I think she went overboard.

I don’t think that guy’s e-mail was all that bad (I’ve gotten worse from listeners) and she agreed with him that she is obese. There is real bullying in the world, but I don’t think that e-mail is a good example. What do YOU think? Leave comments on today’s blog.

The first presidential debate goes down tonight in Denver, Colorado. We all have a good idea of what will be said, but we can safely assume that none of it will be from this list of the Top Things You Won't Hear at Tonight's Presidential Debate.

*President Obama, if re-elected how will you handle the horrible state of the economy that you will inherit from yourself?

*If re-elected for another term, I promise to finish what I never started during my first term.

*You don't know how to fix the economy? What a coincidence. Me neither!

*The hardships faced by the American people remind me of the hardships I faced growing up in Indonesia . . . I mean, Kenya . . . I mean, Hawaii.

*For those that don't like Obamacare, it's the worst piece of legislation in U.S. history. For those that do, it's based on what I passed as governor of Massachusetts.

*And in closing, I'd just like to remind voters south of the Mason-Dixon Line that my opponent's middle name is "Hussein."

*Now that I think about it, I don't even want to be president.

If you've never heard of it, there's a maximum security prison in the Philippines where the prisoners have to DANCE as part of their rehabilitation. Well, hundreds of them did the Gangnam Style dance . . . in the pouring RAIN. The video was posted on YouTube over the weekend, and it already has over a million hits.

On today’s blog you’ll see a new homemade WTFT shirt design, send in yours now as TOMORROW is the deadline!

You’ll also see a picture of Ask Julia’s famous spiked shoes….you’re welcome, listeners.

I agree with Max, to a degree. I'm a middle school teacher in St. Louis and, like many of my colleagues in my profession, I'm overweight. I'm about eighty pounds over my ideal weight and I know it. I ought to lose this extra weight as I'm a "role model" for my scholars and, Lord knows, I'm working on it. Now, if someone came to me and told me that I ought to do so for that reason and for my own health it would cut my feelings, for sure. UNLESS that person were willing to starting walking WITH me down the long road to that healthier lifestyle to which they refer.
I make my scholars memorize worthy wise sayings, one of which is Abraham Lincoln's "He has the right to criticize who has the heart to help." If that critique of my obvious lack of self-control and discipline were accompanied with consistent, compassionate, patient and firm aid to help me change those aspects of my life and habits that brought me to this state, I would be grateful for the comment.
If one is on the side of the road, radiator steaming, battery dead, tires flat because of neglect or abuse of the car, one will not welcome a drive-by shout of, "How about you get a tune-up? You fall asleep in auto shop class?" But if someone would stop their own car, spend the time and effort it took to show one how to check, fix and maintain one's car, then one would be thankful for the advice and expertise that the helper is offering. Otherwise, it's just obnoxiousness in the guise of "help".

(Plus, "bullying" is most often defined as focused, repeated negative attention. If the writer had sent letter after letter of the same, it'd have been bullying. As it is, it's just obnoxious.)

The guy's email wasn't mean at all - it was legit observation. If she had a medical reason for her weight, then that was her opportunity to both inform, and swat-away criticism. If not, well ... no wonder she went on, and on, and ON about it. She went way too far. He did not 'bully' her whatsoever. She simply didn't like hearing what he had to say. Most of us DON'T, when someone holds a mirror up to us. It's a cringe-inducing experience, at times. However, the other thing is this: You simply CAN'T be in the public eye, then get indignant when someone makes a comment about you! Those are incompatible concepts. You have to take-on all comers, graciously ... that's part of the job.

I agree with Max 100%. First off, the email was very tame and in my opinion not bullying or hateful at all. Second, I agree with his email's content. Obesity is an epidemic that I deal with every day in the health care industry. And her whining doesn't make that any less of an issue today.

This is simply a question of character. I try to live by the principle that you criticize in private, and praise in public. Clearly, the man that sent the email to Ms. Livingston didn't follow this principle. That said, one aspect I agree with is that Ms. Livingston went overboard in her response. She would have been better served to ignore this critic completely...

@mrcpuhead I think you have it backwards. He sent her a *private* email (to her work email) . Her husband opted to post it (thereby making it public) and then took it another step in making it public by addressing it on-air. The email author critized in private and she chose to do so in public.
